“Black Friday is here and stores across the US are making final preparations for the big day. Black Friday is traditionally the busiest US shopping day; the trouble is, it threatens to turn into something else completely, this year.
“Hundreds of thousands of people, including many celebrities, all across America are calling for the boycott of one of the most famous shopping-frenzy days of the year. A grand jury’s decision not to prosecute a police officer who fatally shot a black teen has brought upon the wrath of the people, and they’ve decided to hit where it hurts most – on the pocket.
“The boycott was prompted by widespread outrage after a jury failed on Monday to indict a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri who shot and killed black 18-year old Michael Brown in August.
The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has decided to join the protest and refuse to spend money during some of the cheapest nationwide sales that traditionally occur every first weekend after Thanksgiving.
“What happened to that boy in Ferguson is an unspeakable tragedy. It affects me as a human being, and it even hurts more when I remember that I’m African-American, too. That’s why I’ve decided to join hundreds of thousands of people who are out on the streets with a clear message”, Mrs. Obama told Newslo.
“The people’s anger is quite understandable. The Caucasians in this country have forgotten what it means to live in a multi-ethnic environment. I mean, look what they’ve done to African Americans over the years. I can only speak for myself; if it were up to me, I would ban all future Black Fridays. In fact, the name itself is quite racist and offensife! I think that a change is in order – from now on, the first weekend after every Thanksgiving should be called “African American Friday”, the First Lady concluded.
