WASHINGTON – Senator Ted Cruz was taken aback this week by ABC White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl’s refusal to blindly agree to what he was saying, and has asked the network to re-do the interview, this time with an interviewer who will just accept whatever the Senator says as truth.
“I did not appreciate the way Mr. Karl refused to regurgitate my talking points during the interview,” said Cruz. “It was almost like he was thinking for himself, which he should know by now is not his job.”
The interview, which took place at Tortilla Coast, the Washington D.C. restaurant where Cruz held a meeting during the government shutdown, was part of This Week With George Stephanopoulos’ year-end review of 2013 “Game Changers.” During the course of their talk, Karl appeared visibly surprised when Cruz claimed he was above politics.
“This is a city where it’s all politics, all the time,” Cruz said, “and I’m trying to do my best not to pay attention to the politics.”
“Really?” Karl asked, not buying it for a second.
“I know that’s hard to believe, because no one in this town does that,” Cruz said.
“No. It’s hard to believe because you’re the most blatantly political individual in Washington,” responded Karl. “You don’t take a dump without thinking about how it will play in the media.”
Upon hearing that, Cruz turned directly to the camera and asked if they would be sure to cut Karl’s comment out. He was visibly upset when the producer refused.
At another point, Cruz started talking about “the Democrats’ shutdown” of the government, but Karl shot right back. “Even John Boehner (R-OH) has said this was a Republican shutdown,” said the feisty correspondent. “Come on. We’re a couple months away from this. The only reason this happened was because you insisted that Obamacare be defunded as a condition of funding the government. If you took away that insistence, there would be no government shutdown. I mean, really.
“Do you think we’re stupid?” added Karl.
Cruz blinked before replying, “Well, yes.”
After the interview, Cruz insisted Karl had infringed upon his First Amendment Rights. “If ABC does not grant me a do-over, I will take them to court. How dare they fact check me! Fox News would never stoop so low!”

Is this satire or real? I can’t tell.

Apparently, the right wing believes that “first amendment rights” are the same thing as a parent, or employers’ prerogative of being able to declare anything to anyone “beneath” them, without having to endure any “back talk”, contradiction, questioning, or “sass”. Bunch of delusional authoritarian fools.

Did this really happen? I can’t believe a reporter would actually call him out like that. I might start watching network news again.

The problem is that it mixes a factual story with made up quotes.
