“The anti-Muslim Republican mayor of Irving, Texas released a statement on Wednesday without a word of apology or sympathy for the 14-year-old science student who was arrested because school officials thought the digital clock he built was a bomb. At around 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Mayor Beth Van Duyne posted a statement to Facebook in which she said that the school district had erred in calling the police on student Ahmed Mohamed, but did not offer a formal apology to Mohamed or his family.
“At some point, Van Duyne – perhaps having been called out for the statement’s chilly tone and lack of sympathy – edited the statement to add a final paragraph saying that she understood why Mohamed’s family might be upset, but she still did not apologize on behalf of the city government or the school.
Speaking exclusively for Newslo, Mayor Van Duyne stated that her lack of an official apology was due to the fact that she felt an apology was not necessary in the first place – just like the fact that a Muslim child was being taught electronics in an American elementary school.
“I really don’t know where we’re going with all of this,” she stated with a slightly agitated tone of voice. “You want me to apologize to a Muslim kid who was learning electronics in an American school? You really want me to do that in spite of everything that’s going on? Seriously?”
When asked why she had such a negative attitude towards a Muslim child, who is obviously very gifted in the field, having an American education, she replied: “You actually need a reason? Look at what’s going on in the world, in the Middle East, ISIS? And those who are like that child are responsible for the war and killing of American troops. And now you want me to apologize for teaching him how to do it? You’ve gotta be kidding me!”
Van Duyne also added: “And don’t you dare tell me that not all Muslims are terrorists, we’ve already educated more than half of them, for Christ sake! We’re actually teaching them how to kill us and our own people. Does that sound right? No, it doesn’t! And you want me to apologize for him being arrested? What if he really was building a bomb and it just failed to go off? Did you think about that?”
“They come here, pretend to be our friends, and then go back there and teach others what they’ve learned with us, so that they can become more effective in eradicating us. No way am I apologizing to the little runt. In fact, I think he’s the one who should apologize to his teachers and classmates for scaring them half to death. The bright side in all of this is the fact that we now have his fingerprints and we’ll know if he lives up to his kind’s reputation when he grows up. As for us, we should stop teaching electronics to Muslim kids in America altogether. That’s the best shot we’ve got at protecting ourselves,” the Irving, TX mayor concluded.
