“House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair, Joe Crowley, writes that Rep. Andre Carson’s appointment to the House intelligence panel has prompted a “shocking amount of comments” attacking his religion.
“The top House Democrat is urging his colleagues to defend Carson against faith-based attacks following this week’s announcement that the Indiana Democrat would be the first Muslim to serve on the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
“Crowley wrote to Democratic and Republican lawmakers Thursday expressing his disgust at the slurs that online commenters are levying against Carson because of his Islamic faith.
““It has come to my attention that there have been a shocking amount of comments made in conservative publications and on social media to the effect that Rep. Carson’s integrity is somehow in question as a result of his religion. These comments deeply offend me, as I’m sure they offend all of you, which is why I hope all of us will take every opportunity to renounce these kinds of comments and discourage this kind of harmful talk,” Crowley wrote.
“He further added: “one of the great strengths of our nation, and indeed the Congress as well, is the diversity of experiences and beliefs that we are able to draw from to inform our policy goals. It is a true tragedy if members are targeted for their religious beliefs as somehow weakening their ability to serve, as opposed to strengthening it.”
On the other hand, America’s toughest sheriff, Joe Arpaio, had his own view of the situation (as expected), which he was more than happy to share with Newslo in an exclusive interview.
“Heck, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is just the beginning. It’s truly a great country we live in, but most people don’t realize that, in addition to wisdom, it takes an incredible amount of strength in order to achieve greatness. And that’s exactly what our politicians lack,” Arpaio said.
He added: “what we’re seeing now is just the first wave of an invasion. They used to use tanks, guns and suicide bombers, and now they’ve switched to more cunning and effective methods, clearly. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – it all started with a Muslim for president. That was an open invitation for all of ‘em (Muslims); from now on, all we can do is just bend over and take it up the a** like the little girls we are.”
