“Democratic state Delegate Joseph Morrissey, of Richmond, agreed to resign after pleading to a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor earlier this month.
“This Virginia state lawmaker apparently plans to run as an independent for his own seat. It can be said that this doesn’t come as a surprise at all if it wasn’t for the fact he is currently spending nights at a county jail, after being convicted in a case tied to his relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
“However, he unexpectedly turned right round and vowed to run for that seat in the special election scheduled for January 13th.
“According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Morrissey will run as an independent after having filed a petition with hundreds of signatures before the Tuesday deadline. Interestingly, Virginia Democrats are attempting to push him out at the same time as he’s starting his new-old campaign.
“Ex-union official Kevin Sullivan has been chosen on Monday as the new candidate for the race by the leaders of the local Democratic Party, in a process Morrissey objected to rather loudly. In addition to Sullivan, who is also a democrat, he will also face Matt Walton in the race, who is a Republican.
“Morrissey is currently serving jail-time, after being sentenced to 12 months in jail with six suspended. According to one of his attorneys, he will ultimately serve three months. He was placed under arrest and prosecutors claimed he had sex multiple times at his law office in August 2013 with a 17-year-old girl who worked for him as a receptionist, after which they texted their friends about it.
“He is now in a work-release program that allows him to work as a lawyer and legislator by day while spending nights in a county jail.
In an exclusive interview with Newslo, Morrissey stated: “this is certainly not what I had planned, but a man’s got to adapt. It’s not easy being a prison bitch every night, but I guess I had it coming. The important thing is I’m able to keep doing the job I love, not to mention that I’ll come back even stronger, and that has nothing to do with pumping iron behind bars, if you know what I mean.”

The sad thing about this is that he was actually re-elected. Then he quit a few months later. Douchebag.
