Mark Driscoll: “Masturbation Is Allowed Only If A Woman Is In The Room, Even If She Doesn’t Notice It”

“Mark Driscoll, a pastor and, obviously, very devoted heterosexual husband, wrote in his book, named “Porn-Again Christian: A Frank Discussion on Pornography & Masturbation for God’s Men”:

““First, masturbation can be a form of homosexuality because it is a sexual act that does not involve a woman. If a man were to masturbate while engaged in other forms of sexual intimacy with his wife, then he would not be doing so in a homosexual way. However, any man who does so without his wife in the room is bordering homosexual activity, particularly if he’s watching himself in a mirror and being turned on by his own male body.”

Asked by Newslo to comment on the aforementioned excerpt from his book, Driscoll stated that “it doesn’t really matter for the act itself whether the woman that is present in the room notices her man (husband) masturbating or not. The only important, essential even, point is the fact that a woman must be physically present.”

Following a request to elaborate, Driscoll went on to describe the difference between masturbating as a heterosexual and doing so as a homosexual. “When a man comes home from work and feels the urge to make love to his wife, but the wife is not in the mood, the man may pleasure himself alongside his wife or even in the same bed with his wife and that is considered perfectly acceptable.”

However, according to the pastor, the situation is completely different when a man engages in some 1 on 1 solo action: “If, on the other hand, a man should feel the urge to masturbate when his wife or another female person is not in the same room with him, that is to say, he is alone, then such an act can be said to have the characteristics or symptoms, even, of a homosexual act. Especially so if the man is aroused by his own naked body or genitals. In fact, such practices are and should be forbidden.”

Interestingly, Driscoll added that the awareness of one’s wife of the act itself is not an important factor in the equation: “Most importantly, whether one’s wife is looking directly at the man while he is pleasuring himself or is completely unaware of what he is doing doesn’t make any difference. As a matter of fact, the only thing that separates a homosexual act of masturbation from a heterosexual one is the mere physical presence of a female person, preferably the man’s wife or girlfriend… or even sister, if we’re talking about rednecks.”
The pastor added: “Men were just not created to masturbate on their own; women were designed specifically to help them with that. Not to mention cleaning up the mess afterwards.”
