Pope Francis on Monday extended indefinitely to all Roman Catholic priests the power to forgive abortion, a right previously reserved for bishops or special confessors in most parts of the world. Francis, who has made a more inclusive and forgiving Roman Catholic Church a characteristic of his papacy, made the announcement in a document known as an “apostolic letter” after Sunday’s close of the Church’s “Holy Year of Mercy.” He said he wanted to “restate as firmly as I can that abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life” but “there is no sin that God’s mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with (God).”
As expected, this echoed throughout the Roman Catholic Church, causing mixed feelings and reactions. Non-church personnel was also somewhat surprised by the Pope’s latest decision, including the president of Concerned Women for America, Penny Nance. In an interview with KBLQ Radio from Minneapolis, she argued that Pope Francis is “turning the Roman Catholic Church against Americans,” and called for his arrest the next time he sets foot in the United States. “And to think he was such a promising Pope when he was first elected,” she Nance said. “We had such high hopes for him. I remember how enthusiastic we were as a nation about his papacy; little did we know he’d stab us in the back like this.”
Asked to elaborate, she argued that the Pope’s extension of abortion-forgiving rights is “targeted against Americans,” as well as that “it is a politically motivated decision that has nothing to do with the Church or its congregation.” “To put this in perspective for you – the Pope will, as of today, be personally responsible for millions of deaths around the world, the huge majority of which will undoubtedly take place in our country. And that makes Pope Francis a mass murderer – and I realize how that sounds, but I didn’t make the rules. What he’s done today is equal to signing the death warrant for millions of unborn babies in the future,” Nance told KBLQ Radio on Monday.
“And for the sake of sheer comparison,” she continued, “not even Muslim fundamentalists and ISIS terrorists combined kill that many grown Americans abroad or on domestic soil. The best they manage to do is a few soldiers here and there, with several other civilians in lone-wolf attacks. Don’t get me wrong – that’s tragic as well, but that’s literally nothing compared to the overall population of our country, which is over 300 million people.”
On the other hand, as of today, we’ll be losing several hundred or thousand unborn American lives daily, which will add up to thousands and then millions down the road. In other words, the Pope has just given a literal get-out-of-jail-free card to people who want to murder their own babies and has cost us an entire population’s worth of American lives in the future. And he needs to be arrested and punished for it if he ever sets foot in America again,” she concluded.
