Choosing a water filter for your home or business is one of the most important decisions you can make. It’s also one of the hardest.

This is because there are a lot of things to consider and a lot of filter methods to choose from. Drinking water is essential for life and having a high-quality water filter will give you peace of mind and improve your health.

Take a look at everything you need to consider when choosing a water filter.

What’s in Your Water?

Before you choose a filtration system you need to know what is actually in your water. Get a copy of the water quality report for your area. One is usually published annually.

You can also test the water yourself with a home test kit. If you have the funds you can get a local lab to come in and test the water. One of the main things you need to find out is if there is any lead in your water.

What Type of Filter Methods Work for You?

When you find out what is in your water, you can move on to finding the kind of filter you need. Activated carbon filters can trap contaminants in the pores of a highly absorbent filter.

Reverse osmosis filters can reverse the natural flow of water. The water passes through a semi-permeable membrane. This method while effective does tend to waste water.

The next type of filter you should consider is a distillation filter. Distillers heat the water to boiling point. It then collects the steam that is given off as it condenses.

This leaves the contaminants behind. However, some contaminants that are able to convert to gas may remain after distillation. This is why it is a good idea to combine distilled filtration with carbon filtration.

You may also want to consider a water softener in order to filter the hard water in your home or office. You can learn more about this method by doing a bit of research then you can decide if it is right for you.

How Much Water Do You Really Need?

Water filters have varying speeds. Some will filter a lot of water very quickly. If you need the filter for drinking water in your home then you do not need a fast filter.

If you are using it for your business then you may need to splurge on a faster more expensive filter for your business. The bottom line is that before you choose a filter ask about the overall efficiency and speed with which it filters.

Drink Well

Good water equals good health. This means that you need to choose a good filtration system.

Remember to always consider what is in the water you are going to be filtering. It’s a good idea to get a report or to do a test yourself.

After that, you need to decide on the filter methods that are right for your needs. This usually depends on where you will use the filter.
