“Washington, D.C. – For any other presidential candidate, making off-color – and arguably sexist – comments about a female competitor would likely result in an insurmountable problem with women voters. Not so for Donald Trump. At least not yet. A new CNN/ORC poll shows that Trump has increased his lead among Republican women, boosting his share to 33% of women voters, up from 20% a month ago.
“The real estate tycoon has repeatedly defied the normal rules of politics, building his standing among every GOP demographic group and leaving his opponents scrambling for how to respond. Trump’s success with Republican women follows a high-profile fight with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, which led both Republicans and Democrats to pound him over what many saw as gender-based attacks. Recently, a Rolling Stone article has brought yet another headline-grabbing fight with a woman, this time with Carly Fiorina, who is the only woman in the GOP field.
“Generally speaking, I really have no issues with women whatsoever,” Trump said in an interview with Newslo. “I like them. Really, really like them, every little thing about them. In fact, I think they are the best thing in this world, right next to money. So much so, that I don’t understand homosexuals. I understand lesbians, but not homosexuals. Hell, if I were a woman, I’d probably be a lesbian.”
Asked what it was that causes so much confrontation between him and prominent women in U.S. public and political life, the tycoon replied: “I don’t really know. They apparently have some sort of problem with me, but I couldn’t tell you what it is. I honestly don’t know.”
“I can say I’ve always had luck with women, though. I don’t really know why that is, whether I have that X factor most of them are looking for or maybe for some other reason. However, one thing I’ve found women particularly love in a man is confidence, and that’s something I have plenty of, so maybe that’s it,” he added.
Trump answered negatively to the question of whether women’s typical dislike of him possibly had anything to do with his often ungauged and predominantly sexist comments, but added: “Like I said, on my part, I don’t have any problem with women whatsoever. Okay, I am a little bit hurt that they all seem to be against polygamy as such, but hey – you can’t win ‘em all, right?”
